Following a recent spate of vehicle thefts in the area, which were carried out using relay devices to exploit keyless entry systems, we are pleased to report that the offender has been successfully apprehended. We are now in the process of pursuing charges for multiple offences related to these incidents. We would like to take this opportunity to remind all vehicle owners, particularly those with keyless entry systems, to take proactive measures to safeguard their vehicles. Relay attacks involve the use of devices to amplify the signal from keyless fobs, allowing criminals to unlock and start vehicles without the physical key. To mitigate this risk, we strongly recommend the following precautions: Store your keyless fobs securely: Keep your keys away from doors, windows, or any other areas where the signal could be intercepted from outside your property. Use a Faraday pouch or box: These signal blocking devices are specifically designed to prevent the transmission of the key fob signal, rendering relay devices ineffective. Ensure that both your main and spare keys are stored in such protective pouches or boxes when not in use. Regularly check the effectiveness of these pouches to ensure they continue to block signals effectively. Consider additional security measures: For enhanced protection, you may wish to explore other security options such as steering wheel locks, immobilisers, or tracking devices. | ||
